Torture and arbitrary detention in Bahrain

Your Majesty,

We are concerned after receiving reports about the practice of torture and arbitrary arrest to a group of youth activists in their areas, where the security authorities accused more than twenty in the case of the death of the security man and an Asian immigrant in the areas of Ma'ameer and Karzakan.

According to international reports, the detainees faced mistreatment in order to extract forced confessions, and the accused were stripped off their clothes, severely beaten, deprived of sleep, food and drink.

Your Majesty,

According to the information received from the Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights, the detainees are activists in their areas in the social and political fields, and they faced arbitrary arrest due to their peaceful activity.

We express our concern regarding the safety of the detainees, and we declare that continuing to restrict their freedom violates the principles of human rights.

We urge the authorities in Bahrain to:

1.      Immediately and unconditionally release the ones that have been arbitrarily detained.

2.      The start of the trial: should be immediate and all-inclusive, nonbiased about the allegations of torture, and to make the findings of the investigation public and to present what proves their responsibility to justice according to international standards.

3.      Guarantee a just and public trial for the detainees and to allow the monitoring of the trial sessions.

4.      Stop using criminal cases to target the defenders and activists in domestic issues.

Yours faithfully…
