Six young African American men residing in Jena Louisiana: Mr. Mychal Bell, Mr. Bryan Purvis, Mr. Theo Shaw, Mr. Carwin Jones and another yet to be identified individual, have been aggressively prosecuted by the District Attorney for a fight that happened last December at Jena High School with a white student.

The fight was the culmination of racially charged events, including the hanging of a noose on a tree in the school yard by three white students which was labeled nothing more than a 'prank'.  And though the white student was hospitalized for a few hours with minor injuries the District Attorney charged the young African American men with second degree attempted murder.

Substantial questions have been raised regarding the application of justice in this case.  Please sign the petition to the Governor of Louisiana asking her to investigate and monitor the cases against these 6 young men.

We the undersigned are concerned about the Jean 6 case in Jena, Louisiana. Substantial questions have been raised regarding the District Attorney and his prosecutorial judgment in this case. There is also concern regarding the ability of the Jena 6 to recieve a fair and impartial jury. As the Governor of Louisiana we are urging you to use your position to investigate and monitor the criminal cases against the Jena 6 to ensure that these young men receive equal treatment under the law.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important civil rights matter.
