Allow Cloth Diapers In Maine Child Care Facilities

  • van: Kelly Wels

The current rules for the Licensing of Child Care Facilities regarding diapering; Rule 22.5.6 state:  Child Care Facilities using cloth diapers must comply with diapering guidelines available from the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Licensing and Regulatory Services. Cloth diapers may be used only when the child has a medical reason that does not permit the use of disposable diapers (such as allergic reactions). The child's health care provider must document the medical reason. The documentation must be placed in the Child Care Facilities File.

A group consisting of Maine Child Care Facilities, cloth diaper retailers, cloth diapering advocates, and parents who want to create change to this rule to allow cloth diaper usage in Child Care Facilities without doctor's documentation to indicate that cloth diapers need to be used for medical reasons.
