The increasing foreclosure problem has caused major problem for innocent renters who are paying rent but owners are not meeting their end and paying the mortgage and in some cases renting knowing they are loosing their house to foreclosure. And don't think the banks have any heart or concern about evicting families as ruthlessly as possible. someone occupying their new property means no money coming in. In some cases banks have served owners living elsewhere and all occupants but neither the bank nor the owner felt any moral obligation to inform the renters and they get a knock on the door by a sheriff to escort them out with NO WARNING AT ALL, these acts are immorral and should be ILLEGAL! To our leaders and lawmakers of the United States of America.
We the people of the United States of America have put together this petition to bring to light immoral and criminal acts being committed every day. Millions of American citizens are being denied rights and protection. To be more specific:
Due to the increasing number of foreclosures an increasing number of renters are being mistreated by a system that does not care nor protect them. Banks take over and evict hard working citizens almost daily. We do thank President Obama and our lawmakers who added the 90 day written notice but we think criminal laws need to be added as well. Here is why we feel this way:
1. some landlords rent the property in the foreclosure process with no intention of paying the note (as they are already loosing it as was the case for me) and just pocket the cash. They should be required to disclose this information in Writing beforehand so tenants such as me can decide (which in most cases we would never rent a place in foreclosure) I only was renting for 3 months before the bank knocked on my door to kick me out when my rent was always current.
2. Another tactic banks are using is to serve 60-90 day notices and eviction papers to the owners living elsewhere with "And all occupants". The problem is the renters are not personally served and the owners feel no moral obligation to inform their tenants of the eviction. So the legal proceeding takes place and the renters and owner who could care less are ordered to move, maybe even with an eviction on their record and the sheriff show up to kick them out with NO warning at all. This is all considered legal and the tenant has no rights and the owners are not held to any criminal standard.
This is an outrage and something needs to be done NOW. Are we trying to turn honest hard working citizens into desperate situations, even becoming homeless overnight? We hope that is not the goal or standard our leaders hold.
We the assigned are petitioning our law makers and leaders to get some criminal laws on the books to protect tenants from being scammed in the manner that is currently happening. Thank you.
