There are many women (and men) who are longing to have children who can give them an excellent home and who have been trying for years to conceive. Many women spend thousands, even hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to concieve and end up giving up because they have gone broke in the process. This is made even more sad by the fact that others are getting pregnant, having abortions or leaving them for dead.
Infertility can be caused by many factors. It can be caused by a disease called Endometriosis or many other infertility problems ranging from male factor infertility to tubal blockages in women, just to name a couple.
In my quest, I could not find a health insurance company that would cover the costs of Invitro-fertilization. I feel that insurance companies should help in paying for IVF and other treatments to those who are struggling. IVF is so expensive that some women actually completely give up their dream of having children simply because of the cost.
This is a medical problem and as all other medical problems are covered by insurance, why are infertility treatments not covered?
I thought I'd start in my state of Florida and then hopefully other states will follow. Hopefully Florida will be the 14th state to make this happen.
We the undersigned are hereby requesting that you urge all Florida health insurance companies to provide coverage for fertility treaments, including but not limited to invitro-fertilization. According to National Survey of Family Growth, CDC 1995, approximately 6.1 million women and their partners in the U.S. are affected by infertility. Most couples dream of having a family only to have this dream shattered because the woman, or in some cases the man, is unable to conceive. There are many reasons a couple may be infertile ranging from endometriosis to unexplained infertility. Infertility treatments are very expensive and may deplete a couples finances or worse cause the couple to give up on their dream of having children completely because it is so expensive.
We believe that every couple deserves to have a family and deserves to have this family without it costing them thousands of dollars or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Thirteen other states have already mandated insurance companies to cover infertility procedures. Please help make this dream a reality for our men and women in our State of Florida.
