Oregon Cougar Action Team, help save Cougars!

Please visit our website:  www.OreCat.org.  We are a not for profit educational foundation dedicated to saving Oregon's Cougar and the Tropic Cascadia biodiversity, an OSU study by Professor William Ripple as to the ecosystem cougars sustain.  We offer school presentations about the Cougar, its history and nature. We talk about how to keep your family, pets and livestock safe if a cougar is in the area.  We teach why it is important to provide open spaces and corridors for cougar to live and why it is important to save them.  Currently, there are no open spaces dedicated to the cougar here in Oregon. Cougar are extinct in 36 States of the Union! How many cougar do we need?  How many cougar do we have?  No one knows!  ODWF has an extremely bad cougar management plan with flawed cougar counts.  Based on misinformation, ODFW is now allowing hunting of cougar with dogs and ODFW has allowed killing hundreds of cougar in Oregon in the last year and a half.  Pregnant cougar or lactating cougar are the primary target and are being shot for fun or attacked by the dogs while trying to protect their young.  The cubs are left to starve, are shot, fed to the dogs or sold as pets, which, under this bad management plan is easy to do with out being caught.  Not only have I received emails from such hunters, I have tried to report such issues to ODFW and am brushed off.  It is so bad that one kindergarten child told me of their first cougar experience.  He described in minute detail a cougar cub running around in his fathers garage and he described the mother looking like an old carpet draped over the fence, dead.  Enough is enough of bad policy management.   It is teaching our children the wrong thing.  OreCat wants to change that by teaching sound science, compassion, and respect for Nature because we all need to share the planet.  It is a moral obligation to save Oregons cougar.   Without cougars, Oregons rich biodiversity will be gone within 30 years or less and their loss will compound the impact of global warming.   All donations made to OreCat are tax deductable.  Help save Oregon's Cougar with as little as a one time $10.00 donation made out to OreCat, PO Box 1183, Jefferson, Oregon  97352, USA.  Big Cougar Hug to all who can help!  Jayne Miller, Director, Oregon Cougar Action Team.
