Ebay currently categorise all bicycles as 'sporting goods'.
The development of the safety bicycle was arguably the most important change in the history of the bicycle. It shifted their use and public perception from being a dangerous toy for sporting young men to being an everyday transport tool for men—and, crucially, women—of all ages.
We have gone back in time, back to the 1880’s.. the bicycle is primarily a vehicle, an enabler yet one of the biggest market places on our planet tells everyone that the bicycle is just for sport.
I am asking you to sign up to this petition to persuade Ebay to list the bicycle as a vehicle first, with a separate category for sporting bicycles.
This recategorisation would help denote cargo/commuter/family/everyday bikes away from sports equipment and help change the manufacturers and buyers perception away from the bicycle as a plaything, back to its rightful place as a serious solution to our local transport issues and an enhancer of local life.
The bicycle is primarily a vehicle for everyday transport, not a ‘sport good’.
We the undersigned would ask you, EBay, to think of bicycles as transport first and a ‘sporting good’ second. We believe that this category change would represent the market place better and also reinstate the bicycle as primarily an enabler of people and as a ‘good’ for everyday transport’.
