Support Academic Enhancement at UK
Dear Provost Subbaswamy,
As students at UK, academics are of extremely high value to us. During the past four years, the Academic Enhancement program at The Study has proven to be an effective way for us to improve our education.
Many of us would have have the grades or understanding of academic material that we do now if we had not been able to go to The Study for help with our classes, especially mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. The numbers speak for themselves %u2013 over 20,000 student contacts occurred at The Study this school year alone. The Study has been an immense help to us and we value this program very highly.
That is why we are extremely disappointed to learn that the budget for Academic Enhancement for 2008-2009 has been cut drastically. Freshman retention rates and 4-year and 6-year graduation rates will no doubt decrease with our decrease in funding, not to mention the quality of student life.
We respectfully ask that you recognize the immense importance of Academic Enhancement to the UK student community and restore its funding to the amount it received during the 2007-2008 academic year at the minimum. We must have this program available to us in order to succeed at UK.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Signed,
The Students and Parents
