Tell CVS to Sell Emergency Contraceptives to Adults, Regardless of Gender
When Jason Melbourne tried to buy emergency contraceptives for his wife at a CVS in Mesquite, Texas, the pharmacist refused to sell him the pill, stating that it was store policy not to sell emergency contraception to men.
Angela Soto, the manager of the CVS in Mesquite, claims that many other CVS stores won't sell emergency contraception to men, as evidenced by a similar incident that occurred recently at a CVS in Houston.
A spokesman for CVS has stated that the official company policy is to follow FDA regulations, which allow emergency contraception to be sold without a prescription to all customers who are at least 17 years old. Yet, a gap clearly exists between the corporate policy and individual stores, which continue to refuse to sell emergency contraception to men.
Sign this petition to demand that CVS enforce its corporate policy at all U.S. stores by conducting thorough training for all pharmacy employees on the non-discriminating regulations for emergency contraception.
We the undersigned call on you to enforce your corporate policy regarding emergency contraception at all stores in the United States. Although your official policy is to follow FDA regulations, which allow emergency contraception to be sold without a prescription to customers who are at least 17 years old, regardless of gender, a gap clearly exists between the corporate policy and individual stores, since at least two stores in Texas have cited store policy when they refused to sell emergency contraception to men. We urge you to conduct thorough training for all pharmacy employees on the regulations for emergency contraception to ensure that this does not happen again.
