Tell the Chicago Tribune to Stop Pulling "Doonesbury" Comic

For the second time in five months, the Chicago Tribune pulled the "Doonesbury" comic strip from its pages. This week's strip featured a QR code, which when scanned, takes the reader to DonorsChoose.org, an award-winning non-profit that allows American public school teachers to ask for materials they desperately need for their classrooms.

Yet, because DonorsChoose.org has recently been attacked by extremist conservatives for helping teachers provide textbooks to their students--some of which include science books that don't teach Creationism--the Tribune decided the comic wasn't worthy of publication.

This isn't the first time the Chicago Tribune pulled "Doonesbury": in September 2011, the paper pulled a week's worth of comic strips from its paper, stating that the comics unfairly made fun of conservative Sarah Palin.

Act now to tell the Chicago Tribune to stop removing "Doonesbury" comics or other satirical material for political reasons.
We the undersigned call on you to stop removing "Doonesbury" comics or other satirical material for political reasons.

Twice in the last five months, the Chicago Tribune has removed "Doonesbury"--first for making fun of conservative Sarah Palin, and more recently for featuring the non-profit DonorsChoose.org, which has recently been attacked by extreme conservatives.

While the Chicago Tribune is free to make editorial decisions, it appears that the only comics being removed are those that the newspaper believes might offend conservatives.

We therefore urge you to continuing printing the "Doonesbury" comic and other satire, regardless of its political viewpoint. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
