The economic collapse has opened the door to opportunists. Now more than ever, consumers need to know how to tell the good help from the bad.

Easy Fixes Should be a Yellow Caution Sign!

Facts:

-Consumers are being bombarded by high-powered marketing campaigns and ads that promise easy fixes.

-For example, so-called "debt settlement: companies say they can negotiate with creditors to cut consumers' debt by 50 percent or more.

-Debt settlement is a young industry that is virtually unregulated in most states. There are no common industry standards for services they offer, the fees they charge, the way they promote themselves, or the information they disclose.
