One-Year-Old Boy Shot Dead by Police Outside Store. Demand Justice.

Police in Mississippi shot a 1-year-old baby dead. The infant boy, named Kohen Wiley, was with his mother and her friend when they went out to get diapers. Staff quickly called the police on the trio, all of whom are Black. That set off a series of events that ended with cops shooting little Kohen dead inside his mother's car.

Staff at the store suspected Kohen's mother of potentially stealing the diapers - though footage from inside the store appears to contradict staff's claims, and to support the mother instead. The video seems to show the mother going through the self-checkout aisle and paying. Either way, payment for diapers shouldn't be valued more than a baby's life.

As Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King, Jr. said in response, "We are treating items on a shelf as more valuable than a child."

When police arrived at the store, they saw Kohen, his mother, and her friend all getting into their car and driving away. Rather than take down license plate information, review security footage, or take any number of level-headed approaches, they decided to open fire on the entire car, regardless of who was inside.

As one policing and security expert, Ian Adams, says: "shooting into a moving vehicle is a very bad idea and one to be avoided at almost all costs... vehicles have other occupants, which is obviously a concern here in the current case."

All of this because some staff inside a store thought a mother might have grabbed basic necessities - diapers - potentially without paying (which, again, seems to have been an inaccurate accusation). Now a 1-year-old boy is dead, and his family is devastated. His mother watched him die. His grandmother is left to remember her joy when watching him play with his favorite toys, and seeing his beautiful smile.

The department has placed the killer cop on administrative leave and is supposedly reviewing the case. But we know where that tends to go - cover-ups and endless excuses about why murder is supposedly justifiable. Not this time.

Sign the petition to demand that the deadly officer is immediately fired, with charges brought against him for murdering a tiny child. We demand justice and accountability, now!
