He Ran From The Cops, They Broke His Neck and Paralyzed Him. Justice for Jimmy Alvarado.

First, there was "Hands up! Don't Shoot!" then " I can't breathe." And today, sadly there's "I can't feel my legs."

Jimmy Alvarado was leaving a quinceañera in the early morning. The group he was with was rowdy, so the police were called to intervene. When they arrived, the crowd scattered, and so did Alvarado.

But how did a simple attempt at evading the police end up with young Mr. Alvarado being paralyzed?

According to witnesses, the 17-year-old slipped on a wet part of concrete as he was running downhill, landing on a car. The cop pursuing him slipped as well and landed on top of the boy breaking his neck.

Was this a freak accident or was this something else? Something that has haunted the communities of black and brown people for decades and now changed yet another life forever — excessive force.

We will never know until we see the video of the incident. Officials who have "reviewed" the incident say the two can be seen slipping "moments before they come crashing down." But until the public can see for themselves, we will never know what really happened and whether or not the cop should be held accountable.

Far too often stories of police brutality make headlines in our newspapers. They end in death, injury, or the paralyzation for the victim and usually with a pat on the back of the cop guilty of the crime. It must stop.

Please sign the petition and ask NYPD to release the footage and allow the public to see what happened to Mr. Alvarado.
