Put Snoop Dogg in Charge of America's Marijuana Policy

According to the ACLU, in a 2013 study, between 2001 and 2010, there were 8 million pot arrests in the United States. The cost of policing a drug that the majority of Americans now want to be legal is jaw-dropping — around $3.6 billion a year.

And this "War on Marijuana" has not only failed miserably and wasted billions of dollars, but it also puts more black and brown marijuana users in the prison system. Black pot users, for example, are arrested at 3.73 times the amount of their white counterpart despite the fact that Blacks and Whites use pot at almost the same rate.

Our current federal drug policy sucks. There, I said it. Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably think the same thing. The nomination of Jeff Sessions as Trump's Attorney General (AG) set drug policy back decades and almost stopped the "green wave" that has steadily rolled over the U.S. to legalize marijuana.

Sessions, famously said that "good people don't smoke marijuana." And during his less than a two-year term as AG he made anti-marijuana policy one of his main goals — even revoking the Obama-era Cole Memo which restrained the Department of Justice (DOJ) from interfering with state marijuana programs.

Luckily his efforts to curtail the growing progress of legal marijuana access failed and now that he has been kicked to the curb by his former best buddy, the DOJ has a chance to put America on a course to legalization — something favored by 62% of the country.

In order to do so, we deserve to have pot policy led by a champion of marijuana rights. Someone who is not only "familiar" with the drug but also an advocate. Someone America can trust to work to tear down the legal barriers that currently stop a third of the country from having the freedom to choose whether or not pot is right for them.

Who is this hero hidden behind the smoke? Why it's Snoop Dogg of course.

Snoop isn't afraid to stand up to the current misguided federal drug policies that have been the cause of millions of incarcerations and injustices. In fact, just last week he went to Washington and enjoyed a joint in Lafayette Park right across the street from the White House.

Now that Sessions is out, it's time for a reset for our country's marijuana policy. That's why I believe the U.S. needs a "marijuana czar" who can have our politicians ear and guide them in the right direction to make marijuana legal and who better to hold the position that the "King of Kush" himself, Snoop Dogg.

Please sign my petition and help put a man in Washington that will give our politicians the blunt truth. Sign to make Snoop Dogg America's first Marijuana Czar.
