Let's put an end to the inhumane and outdated practice of exploiting exotic animals in the circus

Dear Mayor Buttigieg and South Bend City Council Representatives;

We recognize and appreciate the important work that the 4H does to teach children about agriculture and farming.

However, practices such as hosting traveling shows that feature exotic animals for entertainment are no longer accepted by most Americans.*

Traveling shows and circuses featuring performing exotic animals have a long history of cruelty and abuse. Below we have provided a number of articles for your reference. **

Fortunately, the number of states and cities that are refusing to host these shows is growing.

Sadly for South Bend, the 4H continues to invite and host these sorts of events that exploit exotic animals purely for entertainment. We feel that accepting this outdated and inhumane practice poorly represents our community.

The 4H Fairgrounds is located within South Bend City limits. We respectfully request that as our elected city representatives you tell the President and Board of the St. Joseph 4H that South Bend will no longer host events that include performing exotic animals.
