Change Whale Protection Act to include dolphins

The International Whale Conservation and Protection Act of 2009 is a bill before the U.S. House of Representatives that calls for the protection of all whale species--EXCEPT dolphins and porpoises.

See the bill here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.2455:

Please write to your Congressional Representative to ask that he or she amend the language in this bill to include ALL cetaceans in the bill.  This will help bring an end to wholesale slaughter activities such as the annual massacre in Taiji, Japan, and extend broader protections to all cetaceans worldwide.

We the undersigned are asking you to suggest a change to the International Whale Conservation and Protection Act (HR 2455 IH), found here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.2455:

This bill is very important, but gets one thing wrong.  You'll notice in the "Definitions" section of the bill, "whales" are defined as follows: "(8) WHALES- The term `whales' includes all species of whales but not any species of dolphin or porpoise."

We're sure you're aware of the annual mass slaughter of dolphins in Taiji, Japan, as recently brought more vividly into the public eye by the documentary, "The Cove."  These amazing animals--also members of the cetacean family, as all whales are--deserve protection just as much as the larger species.

Please act to amend HR 2455 to include ALL cetaceans, and help bring an end to this wholesale annual massacre while you help protect all whales around the world.  We need your specific help in the House to make this important change to this bill.

Thank you so much for your attention to this vital matter.
