We ask the UK Government to consider banning greyhound racing. In a modern society, no animal should be used as a means of making money by gambling.
Each year many hundreds of these beautiful creatures are destroyed, often using inhumane methods, i.e. the bolt gun, simply because they were not fast enough, sustained an injury, often minor, on a dangerous racetrack, or were too old to race at 4 years of age.
This situation surely cannot be allowed to continue and the Government must look at making this so called 'sport' illegal.
Sir, every year hundreds of greyhounds are abandoned, shot, hanged, etc. Greyhound Racing should be banned in the UK. There is no place in a modern day society for the use of animals for betting and making money. Many of these animals are destroyed well before they are 4 years old either because they are not fast enough or are past their useful life. Very often a bolt gun is used to despatch these loving and affectionate dogs. Often their ears are cut off so that their owners cannot be traced. The UK should have no part in this cruelty. I urge the Prime Minister to take action to ban this 'sport'.
