Please do not promote animal abuse, and the destruction of our Nation's ecosystems!

DeKalb County Young Farmers and Ranchers-(a farm Bureau group for people ages 18- 35), is planning an event involving particulary shocking and unnecessary cruelty, and abuse of frogs.  The event; "Giggin' for Grads" is scheduled to be a fundraiser for DeKalb County High School in Smithville on July 12. Gigging is typically done at night and involves "catching" frogs by cruelly impaling them with a multipronged spear. Headlamps are first shone into the animals' eyes, stunning or dazing them, which makes it impossible for them to see the hunter or the gig. Frogs are members of the animal kingdom, and are scientifically proven to experience pain.  As a result of being stabbed through their sensitive skin, tissues, and organs, the frogs will eventually bleed out or fall victim to shock or organ failure.  These vulnerable animals will experience a slow, agonizing death.  Event participants are directed to hunt 15 of the biggest frogs they can find.  This event is particulary shocking and disturbing, due to the fact that it is completely unnecessary.  Promoting unnecessary animal cruelty in this society is a deeply disturbing and irresponsible act.  We encourage the DeKalb County Young Farmers and Ranchers to be aware that as part of their training, Nazi's were required to abuse animals, in order to numb themselves to abuse and killing of the humans they were being trained to kill. Many serial killers and rapists have had a history of acts of animal cruelty. In a society that needs to take terrorism seriously, we are hoping you will do all you could to stop the promotion of all forms of violence, especially unnecessary violence.

Please also take a moment to call and/or email the TN Farm Bureau, and call the DeKalb County High school and politely urge them replace this event with a fundraising event that does not involve animal cruelty and the destruction of our Ecosystems.

Dear De Kalb County Young Farmers and Ranchers,

We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn you are planning an event which will involve particulary shocking and unnecessary cruelty, and abuse of frogs. We understand event participants are directed to hunt 15 of the biggest frogs they can find, which encourages killing the strongest and healthiest individuals in the populations of various species.  Frogs are absolutely vital for the existence of healthy ecosystems and a healthy environment overall.  They serve as a critically important source of natural insect control, due to the fact that their diet consists of many insects.  Many frog populations are already rare or even endangered. Many convicted serial killers, rapists, and other criminals have been found to have a history of significant animal abuse. In a society that needs to take terrorism seriously, we are hoping you will do all you can to stop the promotion of all forms of violence, especially unnecessary violence.
