Trump: commit to fighting polio!
Polio had a terrible impact on the health and wellbeing of millions around the world for many centuries. In the last few decades, modern science has managed to stamp it out in most of the world through extensive vaccination programmes. But polio still afflicts Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. The USA has a vital part to play in this remaining fight.
Local and international authorities are working hard alongside local communities to eradicate this terrible disease. Alongside other western countries, American has helped to bankroll vacciations. But in Pakistan and Afghanistan experts say that mistrust of western governments makes it harder to persuade people that the vaccine is safe. Increasing tensions between Trump's administration and these countries could put these efforts at risk.
Please sign this petition to ask that President Trump and his administration to commit to ongoing funding and culturally sensitive support for polio vaccination programmes in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
