Stop the Slaughter! STOP IT NOW!

The state wildlife commission sanctioned the murder of 10% of the bear population in Florida. We must not let them continue this practice... With only a total of 3,000 bears in Florida, the number of licenses to kill them totaled 3,700. (The state collected just under $1 million in license frees.)

Far more than the state-mandated "cap" of 320 bears were killed -- so many so fast that the state had to stop the hunt after only 2 days!

We must ensure the Wildlife Commission does not cave in to the relentless demands of hunters who want to slaughter these innocent animals. Help us send a message!

Dear Governor Scott:

On behalf of the concerned citizens of not just Florida, but the country as a whole, we demand that you instruct the officials of the state Wildlife Commission to desist from approving any further “open season” bear hunts in the future.

The last bear hunt decimated over 10% of the estimated bear population in Florida and should not have been sanctioned in the first place.

Wildlife Commission officials spurned the efforts of numerous organizations such as the Sierra Club when they authorized the slaughter.

The so-called desire to “harvest” the bears to control their population is a complete fabrication of a non-issue. The bears have been on a conservation list until recently, and the minute they were removed from that list, the calls came to start killing them again.

Why?

Stop the slaughter, governor Scott. You have the power to do it.

All you need now is the courage.

Thank you for your consideration.
