Save Wolves in Wyoming!

  • van: Chris Wolverton
  • ontvanger: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe

The Federal Government seeks to end Endangered Species Act protections for Wyoming's wolves later this month. This will give ranchers and hunters the right to shoot and kill wolves on sight in most areas.

In 2011, Montana and Idaho removed wolves from the endangered species list. A combined 500 wolves have been killed in those states since then, often with painful trapping methods. 270 wolves currently live in Wyoming outside of Yellowstone, where they were reintroduced in the mid-'90s.

Wolf hunts in Wyoming are planned to begin on October 1, and the state plans to issue unlimited hunting licenses. They will halt the hunt after 52 wolves are killed.

Non-lethal control methods such as guard dogs and barriers can effectively prevent problems associated with wild wolves. Allowing hunters and ranchers to freely kill these beautiful, intelligent animals on sight should not be an option. Please sign the petition to keep Wyoming's wolves on the endangered species list.

Dear Mr. Dan Ashe, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director,

We are aware that the Federal Government seeks to end Endangered Species Act protections for Wyoming's wolves later this month. We are concerned that this delisting will give ranchers and hunters the right to shoot and kill wolves on sight in most areas.

In 2011, Montana and Idaho removed wolves from the endangered species list. A combined 500 wolves have been killed in those states since then, often with painful trapping methods. 270 wolves currently live in Wyoming outside of Yellowstone, where they were reintroduced in the mid-'90s. We understand that Wyoming plans to issue unlimited hunting licenses in October, and will allow 52 wolves to be killed.

Non-lethal control methods such as guard dogs and barriers can effectively prevent problems associated with wild wolves. Allowing hunters and ranchers to freely kill these beautiful, intelligent animals on sight should not be an option. We respectfully urge you to keep Wyoming's wolves on the endangered species list. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
