Save the Sunderbans-the undiscovered paradise on earth

Where the land meets the sea at the southern tip of West Bengal lies the Indian Sunderbans, a stretch of impenetrable mangrove forest of great size and bio-diversity. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Sunderbans is a vast area covering 4264 square km in India alone. The Indian Sunderbans forms the largest Tiger Reserve and National Park in India. The Sunderbans forest is home to more than 250 tigers, chital deer, rhesus monkey, fishes, red fiddler crabs, hermit crabs, crocodiles,Ridley sea turtle, and an  incredible variety of reptiles and birds.
However this paradise on earth may be wiped away from the face of this planet in the near future.
Human encroachment into the mangrove is rapidly depleting the resources of the region.
The salinity is increasing (now almost as saline as the deep sea) due to water withdrawal upstream. Species that are not tolerant towards salinity are fast disappearing.
With global warming and subsequent sea level rise, submergence of a great part of Sunderbans is likely to occurThis will result in loss of protection against cyclonic storms, hurricanes and tsunamis and thus huge loss of life will occur.
So sign the petition to show you care.Inform others about the need to save the Sunderbans. It is only the spread of awareness that will help make our planet a safe and happy place to live in.
