Demand an End to Artistic Censorship!

This petition is for all otaku in the continental United States. For to long have we had to sit on the side lines as other people, not even gamers or otaku, decide what can and cannot be published in our land of the free. It is our constitutional right to have access to any and all media that we so desire, within boundaries of course, but as long as no law is infringed upon by this artistic representation there should be no censorship. Our choices are just that, OUR choices. If we want a game like Valkyrie Drive to come to our consoles, then game developers should have the ability to produce unhindered by American censorship. The creator of this game is an artist, regardless of the sexual connotations his art has, and as an artist Kenichiro Takaki should have the right to produce his art in a country that promotes freedom of speech. Not allowing this to be produced in these United States is not infringing on our freedom as consumers, but on Mr. Takaki's freedoms as a member of the artistic community. The fact that his company is being stonewalled with an adult-only rating is absurd. If I want to watch shows like Game of Thrones, I pay for them. If I can go out and buy an American Pie film without even presenting my ID why is it that when I want to play a game, the industry says no because it is too sexual. That is why I am calling for action on the part of the ESRB; asking them to release the chains on foreign artists and producers. Please sign if you feel for this cause.

The Entertainment System Rating Board has a hold on the niche community by witholding the approriate rating for a game and stating that it has enough sexual content to indicate an Adult-Only (AO) Rating. As most people know, an AO rating is a market death sentence. Stores will refuse to carry your product and consoles companies will not approve development. This is particularly happening in the Japanese gaming environment. These games are overtly sexual and are definitely not appropriate for all audiences, but to prevent the audience that this game is marketed to from enjoying this game is just absurd. To be honest, games like The Witcher and Mass Effect had far more sexual content than the games I am discussing here. Game Artist Kenichiro Takaki, creator of the "Senran Kagura" franchise, has a new game that has been blocked out by the ESRB called "Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni." This game is predicted to have an AO rating and that censorship would not even assist in recieving a lower rating. I, as many fans of Mr. Takaki's work, am infuriated about my right to play these games and view his art the way that he intended it being revoked by the ESRB. That is not their right and that is not their decision. Be it only a suggestion by the ESRB, it still prevents games from being published. To me that sounds more like a definitive statement and not a "board suggestion."
