Houston -- Remove Ban on Feeding the Homeless!

The Houston City Council just passed a law that will make it a crime to distribute food to five or more people on public property without prior permission to do so. If the law is broken, the consequence is a $500 fine.

This is criminalizing basic charity and will make it difficult for groups that feed the homeless, some that have been doing it for decades, to continue their work. Food is a right, not a privilege.

Activists will challenge this in court and are trying to get this law to be put to a citizens' vote in November, but they will need 20,000 signatures.

Please tell the Houston City Council that feeding the homeless is not a crime, and that this law is wrong.

Please revoke a recent Houston law that makes feeding the homeless on public property a crime. No one should have to get permission for basic charity.

This law is wrong and unnecessary, and will make it difficult for Houston's homeless organizations to continue their work.

Do what is right and stand up for human rights.
