There is a new policy at American Career Institute that will be enforced requiring the students to adhere to a new dress code. This policy specifically states that students in the Medical Assisting program will be required to wear the ACI scrubs and nursing shoes or "crocs". Failure to comply with the new dress code can result in termination from the student's program of study.
When a student enrolls in the program, they are given only 3 sets of ACI uniforms that are meant to be used every day. Having only three sets of scrubs results in students having to wash their scrubs more often in order to comply with the hygiene policy that is also being enforced. In addition, those who are not financially capable of purchasing more uniforms and the nursing shoes that are being required are at a severe disadvantage and now risk losing their education.
Before this policy was enforced, the students in the clinical programs were allowed to wear their own scrubs so long as they were medical uniforms. Those that have already purchased new scrubs are at a loss because they will not be able to wear them except for 1-2 days out of the week, Thursday evenings and Friday mornings.
This petition is to ask the school to either provide students with more sets of scrubs or amend the dress code policy to allow medical uniforms of all colors and designs. To purchase a new set of ACI scrubs, it costs $28 in addition to purchasing nursing shoes from an outside source. This may seem achievable, but students come from all walks of life and are not necessarily capable of affording these uniforms in addition to other materials needed for school. Please take this into consideration, and allow for the amendment of said policy to accommodate all persons who attend American Career Institute.
