A recent animal cruelty case out of Florida has beyond disturbing details.
Police arrested a woman in Stuart, Florida after they discovered that she had
buried four of her own cats while they were still alive.Sign the petition demanding this woman receive mandatory mental health counseling and a ban on animal ownership as part of her sentencing!It is absolutely heartbreaking to think about what these poor cats went through. It is unclear how police were alerted to what happened, but the minute they heard that these animals were in trouble, they
jumped into action.Police dug up multiple portions of the property, and they were able to save two of the cats' lives –
but sadly, the other two cats died, likely from suffocation or being crushed.From the police photos, it appears that
the cats she buried alive may have actually been kittens.Our hearts absolutely break for the cats that did not survive this terrifying ordeal. Shockingly, police located even more cats than those that were buried –
at least eight more cats were inside this woman's house!Though the surviving cats have all been saved, and their abuser has been put into custody and charged, there is still so much work to do and questions to answer.
Apparently, the woman buried these cats "because she believed they were demons." These are not the words of a well individual, and we must ensure that she gets the help she needs so that she is no longer a threat to other animals, other people, or herself.
A huge part of the problem is that she was able to obtain this many animals when she was in such a state of mind. Owning and caring for an animal is a huge responsibility that requires care and compassion, which is why this woman should not be able to legally obtain another pet or animal ever again.
We must make sure no more animals suffer like these cats did. Sign the petition to see true justice be served, in the form of mental health counseling and an animal ownership ban!
