My name is Isaac Orea Montero and I am interested in serving on the Fairfax County Community Action Advisory Board (CAAB) as a representative of the low-income population. The CAAB is a volunteer-based advisory board that provides oversight of state and federal Community Service Block Grants that are used to support community-based initiatives in Fairfax County (click here to learn more).
As a first generation Latino whose family lived in many of Fairfax's low-income communities, I understand the challenges these communities face and the impact community-based initiatives can make. My family often received resources from the same community-based services that are supported by the Community Service Block Grants.
Growing up in Fairfax, I had the privilege of graduating from Northern Virginia Community College and then transferring to George Mason University to complete my Bachelors in Community Health. Through my studies and lived-experience, I feel motivated to give back to the many services that helped me succeed by ensuring that they continue to be funded and available for families that need it the most.
I reside in one of the zip codes (Fairfax, 22033) in the lowest third with respect to median household income, meeting one of the criteria to sit on the board as a representative of the low-income population.
