Save the New England Cottontail Rabbit!

The iconic cottontail rabbit, celebrated in songs and storybooks, is in danger of extinction if steps aren't taken to save its habitat. According to the Wildlife Management Institute, the popular breed has lost more than 80 percent of its habitat over the past 50 years.

Cottontail rabbits need young forest growth such as shrubs and dense, small trees to thrive. As forests have matured over the years, the rabbit population declined.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is partnering with state agencies, private organizations and farmers to restore shrub lands and breed more cottontails. Please sign the petition to support current and future restoration efforts to save the cottontail rabbit!

We, the undersigned, are concerned about the future of the New England cottontail rabbit. As you know, the popular breed has lost more than 80 percent of its habitat over the past 50 years.

We are relieved that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is partnering with state agencies, private organizations and farmers to restore shrub lands and breed more cottontails. We support and encourage your continued efforts to preserve this iconic species. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter.
