"Christopher Griffiths carried out the 'deliberate and planned operation' on his Staffordshire bull terrier, Victor," reported Metro.
All Victor wanted to do was give his human companion endless love and loyalty.
But all he got in return was horrific abuse.
Metro went on: "Prosecutor Glen Murphy said officers went to Griffiths' home after reports he had been assaulted and found significant amounts of blood at the scene.
"Victor was placid despite his injuries, possibly due to the effects of cocaine which was found in the dog's urine."
He gave his dog cocaine...
How horrible is that?
What if he had caused the poor dog to overdose and die?
"It is clear this was a deliberate and planned operation which would have taken some time to exact.
"No one will ever know how much pain Victor suffered. A considerable amount of force had to be used to cut the cartilage.
"It is clear that you ignored the obvious pain Victor was in and it was planned because you drugged the dog in advance.
"The injuries could have easily become infected had it not been for the intervention of the RSPCA and Victor could have come to further harm or even death," said District judge Gwyn Jones when she handed down sentencing.
I agree with everything she said, 100%!
But here's the worst part...
Griffiths' punishment was little more than a slap on the wrist.
He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of just £80, and jailed for a measly 24 weeks.
What's to stop him from just buying another dog and committing the same acts of violence again and again?
Nothing.
That's why we're calling on the British government to take real action to prevent animal abuse, by banning convicted criminals like Christopher Griffiths from ever owning an animal again.
The Animal Welfare (Sentencing) Bill 2019-20 was presented to Parliament in February of 2020, sponsored by Chris Loder MP.
We're asking him to lead a movement in Parliament that would make this happen.
