Bring An End To Breed Specific Legislation

We, the undersigned, urge the members of parliament to repeal Section One of the Dangerous Dogs Act, Breed Specific Legislation, in favour of a more all-inclusive law which willtake the stance of "Deed-Not-Breed".

Since 1991, when the government banned 4 breeds of dog;

• The American Pit Bull Terrier;
• The Japanise Tosa;
• The Dogo Argentino;
• The Fila Braziliero

the number of dog attacks have increased. In some areas of the UK they have increased over 100% in recent years.

We feel that in order to deal with this, the government must remove the illegality of owning these dogs so they are not seen as tempting to the wrong kind of owners to have. These types of owners will only own these dogs as "status dogs" or "weapon dogs".

Whilst B.S.L. is in force, these dogs will always have that law-breaking thrill to the law breaking owners.

Also, another side of B.S.L., are the innocent family pets removed and either Put To Sleep or forced to go through a painful disfiguring process (tattoo) simply for looking like any of the banned breeds. The heartache and trauma that both the family and the dog itself goes through is un-justifiable.
