Washington State's Clean Energy Agenda Needs Bold Action

Washington adopted an aggressive, nation-leading decarbonization agenda when it enacted the Clean Energy Transformation Act (2019) and the Climate Commitment Act (2021). Since the passage of those landmark bills, the state's energy transition has stalled, and Washington today ranks dead last in the U.S. in clean energy growth.

This is unacceptable. To turn Washington's trajectory around, we need to accelerate the development of clean energy generation projects throughout the state. In doing so, increased reliance on intermittent renewable sources requires energy storage infrastructure to ensure power is available when homes, businesses, and critical services in our communities need it most.

That's where battery energy storage systems come in.

Projects like the Cascadia Ridge Resiliency Energy Storage project in Snoqualmie are designed to strengthen grid reliability by safely storing energy when supply is available and delivering it during periods of peak demand, which is essential for supporting the continued growth of renewable energy sources like wind and solar that reduce our reliance on fossil fuels over time. These projects also prepare our electrical grid for the strain caused by growing demand and more frequent extreme weather events, create jobs for the local union workforce, generate tax revenue for public services, and contribute to the long-term economic development of our state and region.

By signing this petition, you are standing in support of the infrastructure that makes our clean energy future possible. Please join us in calling on state and local leaders to take bold action that puts Washington's fight against climate change back on track.
