URGENT: Save the Rainforest – Tell the EPA To End Deforestation for Biofuels

A small decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this fall will have big implications for the world’s last, great forests.

This summer nearly 40,000 signers joined us in asking the agency to limit deforestation-linked biofuels, but now the agency is asking for more input – can you join us and send one more comment to the EPA? We've only got until Oct. 19h, so sign and share with your friends who care about rain forests today!

Thanks in part to our concerns, the EPA is looking more closely at biofuels that cause deforestation in places like Indonesia, Argentina and Brazil.

A recent decision by the U.S. government to levy tariffs and reduce imports of soy and palm biodiesel imports from Argentina and Indonesia is a step in the right direction. But unless overall federal mandate levels for biodiesel are also lowered, we’ll have a big spike in domestic production. And research shows that when soy oil is taken away from food products and made it into biodiesel, palm oil fills the gap.

To truly end ‘imported deforestation,’ we have to limit production of all vegetable-oil biofuels. Please ask EPA Administrator Pruitt to do that today.  Photo credit Niall Corbet
