Tell The American University in Cairo to Stop Removing Cats from Campus

Stray cats have always been an integral part of the community in the American University in Cairo. They were neutered, fed and cared for by the faculty and students. However, at the beginning of 2018 it was decided that all cats were to be banned from campus.

The Animal Rights Association in AUC have tried time after time to address this problem with various solutions in a series of meetings with the university administration to no avail. For the longest time, there was a budget designated to provide food for these cats, except it seems that the lives of animals are ignored as the university shifts its budget to fit Egypt's economic climate.

Almost a month ago, the University Food Services hired a company called "Spider" to remove the cats from their vicinity in complete secrecy; where they take these animals or what they do to them is unknown.

Thankfully, students and ARA were able to halt these operations, however this doesn't guarantee the safety of these animals in the future. The university still wants to completely remove these the wildlife and there's no guarantee what will happen next. The student's pressure alone cannot save these animals from being removed in this ineffective university plan.

Before anything else can happen, we need all the support we can get to prevent the expulsion of these valued animals from our community.
