There are huge sea turtles lies on a sand under the scorching Somali sun. They lie belly up and slowly die. They are not allowed to die quickly: the product must be fresh, so sometimes cruel people come to the tormented turtles and sprinkle them with water or cover them with wet rags. The turtles look at people with big black eyes, blink, then open their mouth and seem to shout, but they cannot make a single sound.
The turtle can lie in the sun for several days. This huge and very beautiful animal is sold for 50 dollars. After purchasing it will be killed and cuted up.
The old fish market in the center of Mogadishu is a small concrete shed that is decorated with portraits of the president. All fish lies on the dirty floor, where it is butchered. Here you can see the most outlandish animals. For example, huge stingrays and tuna stuck all over with flies. There are no refrigerators or ice. The heat is terrible, the fish quickly deteriorates, but here it does not bother anyone.
On the floor - a bunch of young sharks. They are all dead, but not cutted out. They just was throw on the floor. Then the sharks are cutted into pieces right on this floor and given to customers. The fish is gutted here too. The market floor is covered with blood, no one washes it.
And there are turtles on the street. Sometimes they are covered with shells of already cutted out turtles. Sometimes with rags - on the left under rags still a dozen huge turtles. All turtles are alive. Turtles blink helplessly with huge black eyes and sometimes try to move with flippers, but they no longer have the strength.
They make butter from turtles, which they sell here. The oil is melted from the turtle fat and then somehow used in cosmetics. When a turtle is bought, it is immediately finished. Buyers look at a bunch of turtle meat and internal organs and choose something for themselves.
Turtles and tuna are endangered, so you shouldn't do business on them. Especially such a cruel business.
It is necessary to draw the attention of international animal protection organizations to the problem of cruel treatment of animals and fish in the markets in Somalia and to ensure the elimination of bullying of living beings!
