Magnolia Manor Park, Seattle is becoming a cherished neighborhood park serving the entire community around the reservoir. However, there is no connection between the Off Leash area along 28th Ave W and the P-Patch on 27th Ave W. The Master Plan for the Park, developed with community input, calls for a connection between the two. This enables neighbors, wherever they live around the park, to use the entire park. The ‘missing piece’ needs to be added to the park.
We would like to be able to walk directly between the P-Patch across to the Off Leash Dog area on 28th W. The two fences need to be removed and a path installed. Connect the two parts of the Magnolia Manor Park, making it a whole.

We urge you to include the Magnolia Manor Park ‘Missing Piece” (application #33) for funding from the Opportunity Grant Funds.
- The Magnolia Manor Park ‘missing piece’ will have extremely low maintenance costs. The ‘missing piece’ is all grass and is not irrigated so that grass has little growth during summer months. Seattle Public Utilities mows this section two or three times a year taking 30 minutes max per session. By opening up the ‘missing piece’, Parks maintenance staff will have easier access at the 27th Ave W side to bring in maintenance vehicles for this section and the Off-Leash area to the north.
- The ‘missing piece’ is one of the smallest projects cost wise. All the basic planning –overall master plan, community input, conceptual design – has already been done. What remains is actual construction design and documentation process specific to the path so that the project can be put out to bid. Since the basic planning has been done, much of the additional cost projected by Parks staff in their formula will not be needed. Also, based on what we learned in fencing the P-Patch, the cost for the ‘missing piece’ fence work may be less than originally estimated.
- This small project, which builds on work already done for the rest of Manor Park, brings together and makes whole the community’s plan for the park. Neighbors are already wondering why they cannot walk from the P-Patch to the Off-Leash Area as planned.
- And finally, there is great community support for this project. An active petition is gathering signatures in support of the removal of the two intervening fences and putting in a path to connect the two parts.
