Trio of Abusers Accumulated Over 30 Dogs, Then Abandoned Them to Die in the Freezing Rain

In March of 2026, New Jersey authorities were sent on a wild, tragic search across multiple townships. Over the course of a single day, they received and responded to reports of caged dogs abandoned across the state -- trapped, helpless, and exposed to freezing rain and brutal conditions.

Three people have been taken into custody, but after hearing the details of what happened, we cannot trust current New Jersey law to provide suitable justice. In the state, animal cruelty convictions are only punishable by up to six months jail time. This does almost nothing to prevent future cruelty.

Sign the petition and demand true justice for these poor dogs!

In total, 32 dogs were rescued by local authorities and volunteers.

These dogs were spread across at least three separate townships, but we now know that the same group of people dumped all of them. This could show an intent to try and hide the abandonments, making them seem unrelated to evade justice. It also likely means that there was a reason these people felt that they couldn't bring these dogs to a shelter or seek help from a reputable organization -- they could have potentially been running a puppy mill or some other illegal operation.

Whatever the reason these dogs were abandoned, it took a terrible toll on the poor animals. They were all abandoned in cages that were entirely open to the elements, which included torrential freezing rain that day. These dogs were left out, trapped in horrific conditions, without access to food or water.

We don't know how long they suffered before they were saved, but we do know that two dogs were dead by the time authorities got to them.

The 32 dogs that were rescued are luckily getting the medical treatment they need, lots of love, and will be available for adoption eventually -- moving on from a life of neglect to the life of care and compassion that all dogs deserve.

But the future of their abusers is less encouraging. At most, they will face months in jail. We know that this is not a true solution, since they could just do the same thing -- or worse -- to more dogs once they are released.

What we really need is to stop these three from ever obtaining an animal again. Sign the petition asking the Sussex County Prosecutor's Office, which is handling this case, to suggest a special sentencing that bans them from owning, working with, or cohabitating with a pet ever again!
