Let Deborah Keep Her Cats!

Deborah is a loving pet owner who provides a home for rescued animals. Recently, a call was placed to animal control because she has five cats and a dog. The limit set by local government is four pets. Animal control found her pets to be happy, healthy, and living in good conditions. However, because of the limit imposed by local government, she is being ordered to get rid of two of her beloved pets. This makes no sense. Displacing two animals from Deborah's care will not solve a pet overpopulation or vagrancy problem. As, a matter of fact, it worsens it by setting a bad precedent. Deborah has selflessly scooped up animals who would otherwise be homeless and wandering the streets. Discouraging others to invite feral animals into loving homes means more animals out on the streets, pawing through garbage for food and leaving fecal matter about, the spreading of disease with no medical intervention. It translates into less spaying or neutering and responsible pet ownership of happy, healthy forever friends. Local government exists to support the well-being of its citizens. How do these actions against Deborah support not only her, but the community as a whole?
