Christmas Frigatebird is on its way to be Extinct

Christmas Frigatebird is found in the northeast Indian Ocean , its only breed in the Christmas Island in Australia , the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classified Christmas Frigatebird as Critically Endangered , their population now is about 2072 and their number is continously decreasing .

Threats for the Christmas Frigatebird is the dust from the phosphate mining ,and the Flying Fish Cove colony was largely deserted because of continuing dust fallout from phosphate dryers. Future habitat loss is possible through clearance for mining. A new application to mine a 2.5 km2 area of rain forest , the Yellow Crazy Ants which was imported to the island by Settlers who came to the island and this ants are responsible for killing more than 20 million Christmas island red crabs and destroying about 80% of the Christmas Frigatebird population in just 30 years the ants prey on the young Christmas Frigatebirds
