For as long as anyone knows, for reasons unknown, the Borough Athletic Fields located behind the Municipal Pool on East Oak (Officially know as CONKLIN PARK as per Ramsey Master), comprised of a soccer field, sand volleyball court, tether-ball, basketball court, and a wonderful family friendly pavilion with bbq grills, has been under lock and key only accessible by a few select coaches, municipal staff, and pool managers. UNLOCK OUR PARK!!
Behind the old fences, wornout gates, dumpsters and debris sits idle a tremendous community asset locked off from taxpayers that could provide endless recreational opportunities for our residents of all ages and all abilities. UNLOCK OUR PARK!!
This is a PUBLIC FACILITY that we, THE PUBLIC, are only "granted" access to during scheduled practices, games, and seasonal pool operation hours. It is OUR tax dollars that have constructed and maintain this facility yet our community does not have access to this Recreational asset. UNLOCK OUR PARK!!
It should be noted that despite the contentious nature of the proposed pool redevelopment project that the underlying premise to select the location is that the existing facility sits dormant 9 months of the year. Well, the same is true for this wonderful recreational facility that is LITERALLY LOCKED UP 9 MONTHS A YEAR!! How about some policy consistency please? UNLOCK OUR PARK!!
Recently, under public pressure, the borough retained a RISK ASSESSMENT in attempts to fortify control of this community asset. The assessment stated security and vandalism concerns as a reason to prohibit public use of this public facility. What makes that any different from Finch Park, bike paths, BOE athletic fields or any other public outdoor recreational area? UNLOCK OUR PARK!!
We, the residents of the Borough of Ramsey NJ, are demanding that borough officials IMMEDIATELY take what ever action is required to UNLOCK OUR PARK and open this facility to our community for full and unencumbered use.
