At present, 10% of South African schools have no water supply, 14% have no electricity, 46% use pit-latrine toilets, 90% have no computer centres, 93% have no libraries, and 95% have no science laboratories. (Source: Dept. of Basic Edu. 2011).
No binding standards exist to say what South African schools require.

We, the South African learners, parents, teachers and community members whose signatures appear below believe that all schools should have the physical resources needed for quality teaching and resources.These resources include, but are not limited to: school buildings, security and fencing, electricity, water, adequate toilets, libraries, laboratories, adequate classrooms and staff rooms, school halls, computer centres and sports facilities. No binding standards exist to say what South African schools require.
