I have lived in Reading all of my life and can only say that the traffic management for this up and coming area is AWFUL. The amount of people that I know who live outside of the town and will avoid it at all costs because of the poorly managed roadworks, road restrictions and unnecessary traffic lights is laughable.
Reading borough council have a lot to answer for in regards to the stress that is put on road tax payers day in and day out. Yet they seem to think it's ok to narrow major routes entering the town at peak times. Shepherds hill is a bottle neck as it's one of the busiest routes In to Reading coming from the East side of the town and they are now embarking on a 6 week lane closure!Why are they not making the road works on these major routes to be carried out either at night or out of peak hours? Why has the road tax payer yet again got to pay for their poorly thought out and quite frankly stupid decisions? I work a 10 hour day and to get just 5 Miles it can take up to an hour. Roads are being dug up year after year in the same place to widen it for bus lanes! So we have to endure the hours of traffic for public transport users! This to me as a road tax payer is an utter joke! Traffic lights placed in areas where they aren't needed, roads that are cut throughs blocked!
My solution is to Put someone in charge of traffic management that actually cares about the motorist, seeing as we are the ones that pay for the roads to be maintained. Ensure all road works are carried out either at night, or out of peak hours. We have traffic that is likened to London, the majority of their roadworks are carried out at night! So why isn't it here? Why is Reading borough council allowing the motorist to go through hours and hours of stress weekly, due to incredibly poor management!
