Please restore Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park

Dear Representatives Huffmann and Haaland:

Yosemite National Park once included two spectacular glacier-carved valleys – Hetch Hetchy and the eponymous Yosemite Valley. They were equally celebrated by pioneering naturalist John Muir. Today, Yosemite is world famous – one of our planet's most popular natural landscapes.

Hetch Hetchy Valley, however, lies underwater and is unavailable to park visitors. In 1913, Congress passed the Raker Act, allowing the City of San Francisco to clear-cut, dam and flood Yosemite's iconic Hetch Hetchy Valley. It remains the greatest destruction that has ever taken place in any of America's national parks.

Improvements in water management will allow San Francisco to capture its entire water supply downstream of Yosemite National Park. Not a drop need be lost.

Please support amendments to the Raker Act that will allow Hetch Hetchy Valley to be restored and returned to the American people, while ensuring no loss of water supply for San Francisco.

There is no other opportunity like this anywhere in the world – to add another Yosemite Valley to our great national park system.

Please help make Yosemite whole again.

Thank you.
