Americans use 500 million drinking straws every day. To understand just how many straws 500 million really is, this would fill over 125 school buses with straws every day. That's 46,400 school buses every year! Its enough to fill Yankee Stadium nine times and circle the circumference of the earth 2.5 times. This is not taking into account the straws used in school lunches and juice boxes. There are reusable straws people can purchase made of bamboo, stainless steel, etc to keep with them. We have reusable grocery bags available, plastic is not necessary. It ends up hurting the beautiful beings in our oceans. How many whales need to wash ashore with bellies full of plastic before people start to change? How many sea turtles need to have straws surgically removed before we say enough????!!!!!
