Kenya: Don't Abuse Refugees!

Kenyan police have tortured, raped, abused, and unjustly detained 1,000 or more refugees.

Victims described police attacking individuals in the streets and in their homes, including children, and having personal belongings (including large amounts of money) stolen from them or demanded in order to be freed. Held in detention with no evidence of crimes, refugees were threatened to be charged with things such as terrorism or public order violations and called terrorists.

Instead of opening an investigation and getting justice for victims, Kenya has been contemplating passing a refugee relocation plan that would move 55,000 refugees into awful refugee camps, taking away their rights and discriminating against them.

Please tell Kenya not to abuse refugees!

Dear Kenya Government,

Recently over 1,000 refugees were beaten, raped, abused, tortured, and unlawfully put into detention by Kenyan police.

Victims were put into detention with no evidence of any wrongdoing and threatened to be charged with crimes they didn't commit. They had personal belongings -- including large sums of money -- stolen from them, and were forced to pay in order to be freed. They were attacked in their homes and in the streets, including children, and were called terrorists.

Not only that, but Kenya might pass a refugee relocation act that would make this situation worse, forcing 55,000 people into refugee camps and taking away their rights.

Instead, Kenya needs to get justice for the victims of these horrendous crimes by doing a complete investigation and prosecuting the offenders. Thank you for your time.
