Petition to the Stone County Planning and Zoning Commission

Stone County for Smart Growth

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Stone County, respectfully oppose the proposed 33-acre, 50+ unit low income or affordable housing development as currently planned.

We are not against growth. We welcome new neighbors and thoughtful development that aligns with the values and character of our rural community. However, this specific proposal raises serious concerns about:

  • Overcrowding and density inconsistent with surrounding properties

  • Environmental risks, including runoff into Summer's Hollar, or what we affectionately call Freedom Creek, and threats to Table Rock Lake

  • Strain on infrastructure, roads, and emergency services

  • Lack of a strong, enforceable HOA, increasing risks of neglect and property devaluation

  • Safety concerns for private landowners and recreational property use

Join us in person on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at 10, CST at the Galena at 113 East 4th Street, Galena, MO 65656 on the third floor. The more residents we can get their in opposition of this new development: (RR-25-026 - Dennis Carr & Dexter Carr are requesting to rezone their property located at 131 Mule Barn Drive, Cape Fair, MO (08-9.0-31-000-000-006.000) from A-1 to R-1 for a Futre Subdivision).

We urge the Stone County Commission to reject the development in its current form and require a full environmental review, reduced housing density, and the implementation of responsible planning standards that protect our water, land, and way of life.

Let's grow smart. Let's grow together. But let's get it right.

Sincerely,
The Supporters of Stone County for Smart Growth

We Did It and Thank You!

We just returned from the County Commission office, and the rezoning did not move forward.

There was a strong turnout in opposition, and we prevailed. The rumors were true; the developer pulled the application, and this petition played a major role in that outcome.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. This is how we protect our community and keep it thriving.

Sincerely,
Jaime K.

We've officially hit the 20% mark. Getting 1,000 signatures in five days is a lofty goal and having this many people respond in kind has been great. We've heard rumors that the developer is pulling out, but nothing firm so we are pushing on. We will do our best to represent you and hope to see you at the commissioners meeting!

Thank you for all your support!

We've already hit 20% of our goal in just three days and that's incredible. Imagine how far we could be if we had known about this proposal sooner.

We need you at the Stone County Commission meeting this Tuesday at 10 AM. We know it's not easy.

Many of us are juggling work and life, but showing up in person is the most powerful thing we can do. We've been told the number one deterrent to this development is visible community presence.

Let's pack that room and thank you for standing with us.

We've crossed the 10% mark toward our goal, and that's a great start, but we're just getting warmed up. Now is the time to rally even more support.

Please share this with your friends, family, and neighbors. Text it, email it, post it. Every person you reach makes a difference:

The single most powerful way to stop this proposal is by showing up in numbers at the commission meeting. Your presence speaks louder than any petition.
