Local Rotary Clubs are non-profit organizations who raise money for the less fortunate around the world. Unfortunately, they are hosting RibFest fundraisers that exploit thousands of pigs in the Okanagan.
These pigs are transported in hot trucks with some of them dying during transport. The standard practice methods of killing these 6-month old animals is terrifying.
Animal agriculture is cruel, proven to be horrific for the environment, and is a huge source of water wastage globally. All of these things go against the values listed on Kelowna Rotary Club's website. The means (selling ribs to raise money) simply do not justify the ends.
We would like to see Kelowna's Rotary Club host a fundraiser that does not exploit oppressed baby animals. No suggestions have been considered by the Rotary Club as, in their words, RibFest would "bring in the most money", and, quote "Our cause is for people, not animals." unquote.
