Yarmouth Greyhound Stadium

We, the undersigned, urge Great Yarmouth Borough Council to revoke the 'Gambling Licence' issued to Yarmouth Stadium for breach of the objective that states, 'Protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling'.

Children and young adults are regularly seen, attending race meetings at the Yarmouth Stadium and this is a cause for real concern. A young person's brain is particularly subject to change right through to their early 20's, the young are also more willing to take risks and they may have poor impulse control. Witnessing adults/family members gambling, impresses upon young people that it can be fun and acceptable. This can lead to serious problems of addiction in later life.

We also urge the public to boycott greyhound racing, at Yarmouth for the above reason and those below:

Yarmouth has become the SECOND most dangerous of tracks in this country, for injuries to greyhounds, with 91 incidents since 1 January 2018. How many of these poor greyhounds lost their lives is, as yet, unknown.

At least 1,013 greyhounds died in the UK racing industry, 2017

For reasons of animal welfare, greyhound racing should cease at Yarmouth Stadium. The recent excessive temperatures saw members of the public being urged to exercise their dogs in the cool parts of the day, greyhounds who are especially subject to extremes of temperature, were still being raced at Yarmouth.

It is time for greyhounds to be pets, not bets!
