President-Elect Biden: Abolish Columbus Day

The celebration of Christopher Columbus is among the greatest perversions of justice and common sense in the United States. Not only did he never set foot on American soil, but his landing marked the beginning of a cruel genocide that took the lives of millions of Native American Indians.
Luckily, 13 states have replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day in the past few years, a necessary step in admitting that the past was wrong and changing the dialogue to ensure a successful future.
With Joe Biden in the White House, we will have a friend to racial justice and a man who recognizes the importance of ensuring that Native Americans receive recognition for their struggles. He has celebrated Indigenous Peoples' Day himself, and with one executive order it could become a federal law.
