Protect Malaysia’s Elephants – Stop Sending Them Overseas

Malaysian elephants are a national treasure and an important part of our ecosystem. Recently, there have been concerns about elephants being sent overseas, including to Japan. This raises serious questions about their welfare, adaptation to a new environment, and whether they can truly be protected outside their natural habitat.

Elephants are highly intelligent and social animals that require large spaces, familiar surroundings, and proper care suited to their natural behavior. Relocating them to another country may cause stress, health risks, and long-term harm.

We strongly urge the authorities to prioritize the protection and conservation of elephants within Malaysia. Instead of sending them abroad, efforts should focus on improving local conservation programs, protecting their habitats, and ensuring they are cared for by experts in their natural environment.
We call on the relevant authorities to:
    • Stop the relocation of Malaysian elephants to other countries
    • Strengthen local wildlife conservation efforts
    • Ensure transparency in any decisions involving wildlife transfer
