Have Mr. Brett Johnson Fired From South Elgin High School

Mr. Johnson has been by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. He refuses to help students in the classroom. The only time he offers help is after school or during one of his free periods. The issue with that is not everyone's lunch/study hall matches his schedule and some people have other more important responsibilities after school. He gives you worksheets and expects you to know how to do them right away. Johnson also doesn't help with kids who were absent. On multiple occasions I have been unable to get my work done because he won't explain what I missed and won't give me at least SOME form of notes. There is a website that he has for students to see answers to the homework, but what does that teach us? I could easily not do my homework and just look up the answers. I have had him for the past two years now- Algebra 2 (SEHS calls it Algebra 3-4) and I currently have him for Pre-Calc/Trig. On January 25, 2018 he made the entire class stay past the bell in order to lecture us about using phones. I myself had to use my phone as a calculator because I can not afford a scientific calculator and the ones in the classroom were already in use or were dead. Many parents have also complained to the school about how Johnson does not respond to emails. My mother emailed him in either October or November and she still has not gotten a response. It is unacceptable that he refuses to reply to concerned parents and struggling students. We get scolded for not understanding things or for even simply throwing out our trash. It is unprofessional and rude. In conclusion, I would like to see action taken against Mr. Johnson and to have his employment taken into question by the school district of U-46.
